Tour of Ayacucho

I've been planning for a while on giving you a visual tour of Ayacucho, and I've been collecting photos especially. But recently I've been having problems loading photos, and so this entry may not get finalised until I get home. I seem to be having a bit more luck today though, so here's a start, as I'd like you to see a few photos before I leave here ... more soon!

Aerial view (well, almost)

Late afternoon storm on its way ...

In the centre

Cathedral in the main plaza

View of hills from main plaza

Plaza San Cristobel de Huamanga (or 'Gringo Plaza')

Central pedestrian street

Shopping heaven

Busy market street

There are over 3,000 varieties of potato in Peru ...

... and selling them is a tiring business!

In almost every street there are street vendors

Fresh flowers and herbs for sale on most pavements

I have never seen so much fruit for sale!

Homemade ice-cream is spun on bowls of ice

There is a whole market that just sells grains

Everything you can imagine on the streets ... crocodile meat?!

Arts and crafts

Ayacucho is famous for woven rugs

Mantas in the central market

Church and prison market
